Dental Crowns In Placerville
What Are Dental Crowns?
A dental crown is a dental cap designed to resemble a tooth, which dentists utilize to repair weakened, damaged, or decayed teeth. It is fitted over the entire tooth, much like a well-fitting cap. To ensure a proper fit, a dentist will have to remove a small portion of enamel before securing the crown in position. Once securely bonded, dental crowns completely cover the whole visible part of a tooth situated at and above the gumline.
When Is A Dental Crown Necessary?
A dental crown might be required in the following circumstances:
- To safeguard a fragile tooth, such as one with decay, from breaking or to keep parts of a cracked tooth together.
- To repair a broken tooth or one that has experienced significant wear.
- To provide coverage and support for a tooth with a large filling when minimal tooth structure remains.
- To anchor a dental bridge.
- To conceal misshapen or heavily discolored teeth.
- To cover a dental implant.
- To enhance aesthetics through cosmetic alterations.
Smile Time Dental Offers CEREC Dental Crowns
In dentistry, CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. This system employs computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) to create dental restoration materials. This cutting-edge technology is capable of designing crowns, dental implants, fixed bridges, inlays and onlays, veneers, dentures, and some orthodontic devices.
Dentists are now able to produce dental crowns using various materials, such as metal, porcelain, ceramic, and resin. CEREC crowns, however, are crafted from highly durable ceramic. Utilizing computer-assisted technology available in the dental office, these crowns can be designed, fabricated, and placed within a single appointment.
At Smile Time Dental, we provide CEREC® tooth rejuvenation throughout the greater Sacramento area. We use CAD technology and years of training and experience in crown design. The procedure is easy and simple:
- A simple exam to determine that CEREC® is the correct option for your filling or crown.
- Once approved the doctor will remove all of the damage and weak areas of the tooth.
- A camera known as an omnicam is used along with a special powder to take a 3D image of your tooth.
- The image is uploaded into the CEREC® software, which mills the ceramic piece to perfectly fit your tooth.
- The CEREC® dental machine mills out a piece of ceramic to the specified shape is needed to be adhered to the tooth.
- After the tooth is constructed the dentist will stain it to a color close to your teeth and bake it to create a shiny glaze.
- The dentist will then adhere the crown to the damaged tooth.
Taking Care Of Your Crowns
Maintaining a proper oral health routine will prolong the life of your CEREC® crown. Start by ensuring a correct fit for your crown; if it needs adjustment, schedule an appointment immediately.
To care for your crown effectively:
- Avoid hot or high-sugar beverages and foods as they may cause increased sensitivity.
- Floss gently around the crowned tooth to keep it securely in place.
- Wear a mouthguard if you experience clenching or grinding.
- Limit sticky foods as they can dislodge or shift crowns.
- Decrease tobacco and coffee consumption to preserve the crown’s luster and color.
- Schedule dental cleanings every six months.
In addition to these tips, follow any specific recommendations from your dentist.
The highly precise CEREC® procedure ensures that your tooth is as good as new, and in some cases, it is even considered superior to alternative dental crown options. Most CEREC® prosthetics can last over 15 years! Our dental team takes pride in restoring the damaged tooth to its perfect shape, shade, and fit for your mouth and preferences.
